About the Author

Ann didn't set out to write a book. She set out to show up for her mother. What followed was the most unexpected, demanding, and ultimately transformative journey of her life - one she navigated as a daughter, a caregiver, and a seasoned healthcare professional with over 30 years of experience rooted in Occupational Therapy and senior healthcare executive leadership. As a Life Coach & Catalyst working with young adults, Ann understands what it means to stand at life's most profound crossroads. A former Canadian National Skating Champion, she brings the same discipline, heart, and resilience to caregiving that she once brought to her skating. She lives in Mississauga, Ontario, and believes no family should face this journey without a roadmap.

About the Book

What Are We Going To Do About Mum (Or Dad)?

A Practical Roadmap For Families Caring For Aging Parents From The First Conversation To The Final Goodbye

When the call came, Ann Gerrard found herself caring for a mother she had spent years having to keep at a distance. What Are We Going To Do About Mum (Or Dad)? is her honest account of that journey - through caregiving, a complicated past, and the unexpected gift her mother gave her in the end.

Alongside her story, Ann shares the practical roadmap she wishes someone had given her - for anyone caring for an aging parent, Mum or Dad, or any loved one. The book covers the conversations families avoid, wills and Powers of Attorney, money, choosing between home, retirement living and long-term care, finding your way through the medical system, sibling dynamics, caring for yourself, palliative care and MAID - with free printable checklists and tools for every stage.

It is written for families who want to be ready before the crisis arrives - and for those already in the middle of it, finding their way without a map.
